Scholars reviewed PPE protocols, practiced radiographic techniques on manikins, and received CPR/BLS certification. They also engaged in infection control exercises and developed essential clinical skills such as instrument identification, proper patient positioning, and HVE placement. On June 4, the interns began their placements at community health centers in Kansas City, where they are now applying the knowledge and skills gained during the training week. The onsite bootcamp and internship are designed to prepare scholars for a successful transition into dental school this August.
Incoming dental hygiene student Tauqir Shahid shared his experience: “The bootcamp was phenomenal. It gave me a great insight into what I was getting myself into. The mentors and coordinators did a great job. Overall, I enjoyed the experience!”
STAHR Dentistry Coordinator Deja Lamb also reflected on the program’s impact: “This program is about more than just learning clinical skills—it’s about building confidence, creating a sense of belonging, and helping underrepresented students see themselves thriving in dentistry. Watching these Scholars step into their roles with curiosity and determination is a great reminder of why programs like STAHR matter.”
