Day 2 of Orientation for the incoming DDS Class of 2029 and Dental Hygiene Class of 2027 was full of energy, learning, and community building.

A delicious homemade breakfast generously prepared by Danita Johnson from the Office of Student Programs started the morning with a warm and personal welcome.

Her thoughtful contribution truly set the tone for the day, and we want to give her a big shout-out and thank you!

Following breakfast, students were welcomed by Dean Paul Luepke and in turn introduced the school leaders, offering insight into the mission, vision, and values that guide the School of Dentistry.

Presentations throughout the day highlighted policies, expectations and topics like professionalism, important as they step into this new academic journey. The theme of the day was belonging, with students exploring what it means to create a welcoming, respectful, and collaborative environment, and how each of them plays a role in building a culture of belonging.

Each class continued the long-standing tradition of signing their class poster.

Lunch was more one on one time for questions and tours with their student mentors.

A special welcome from the school’s Dental and Dental Hygienists alumni associations and Roy J. Rinehart Foundation, reflecting on what it truly means to be a Roo and offering a reminder that the three organizations are here to support them while they are school and offer them an opportunity to participate as a future dental professional.  The new students were also invited to an upcoming Royals game and pregame tailgate picnic as guests of the Dental Alumni Association.

The day wrapped up with a cool sweet treat on a very hot Thursday with an ice cream social, courtesy of the Missouri Dental Society and Greater Kansas City Dental Society.   Students had a chance to relax, and connect with one another,

Spirits were high as everyone looked ahead to the final day of orientation tomorrow and the official start of classes on Monday.
