Faculty, researchers, and students from the Cox Lab at the 海角论坛 School of Dentistry attended the Society for Craniofacial Genetics & Developmental Biology (SCGDB) Annual Meeting, held this year in Minneapolis. Participants included Dr. Timothy Cox, Professor in the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, Curators’ Distinguished Professor, and Endowed Professor in Dental and Musculoskeletal Tissue Research; Dr. Liza Cox, Senior Research Associate; Ryan Anderson, Research Associate; Amen Teshome, PhD candidate; and Jessica Brewer, graduate rotation student.

Two members of the Cox Lab presented posters highlighting ongoing research in craniofacial biology. Ryan Anderson presented “Deficient serum retinol delivery results in premature closure of cranial sutures and cranial growth deficiencies,” while Amen Teshome presented “Discovering the role of non-coding regulatory variants in craniofacial development.”

The meeting also marked a significant achievement for the lab, as Dr. Timothy Cox received the 2025 David Bixler Excellence in Craniofacial Research Award. Named in honor of David Bixler, the first president of SCGDB, this award is the society’s highest scientific honor and recognizes long-term distinguished leadership and outstanding contributions to the craniofacial sciences. In addition to receiving the award, Dr. Cox delivered a keynote lecture titled “Facing Reality: From Complex Variables to Opportunities.”
