Students and faculty from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Dentistry’s Dental Hygiene program participated in the Missouri Dental Hygienists’ Association (MDHA) Lobby Day on February 11 at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City. The event provided an opportunity for participants to advocate for the dental hygiene profession and promote improved access to oral healthcare for communities across the state.

Representing 海角论坛 were Anna Mitchell (DH Class of 2026), Grace Wilson (DH Class of 2026), Katherine Vejil (DH Class of 2027), and K. Louise Davis, RDH, Clinical Assistant Professor. Throughout the day, students engaged directly with state legislators from their home districts to discuss issues affecting dental hygiene practice, patient care, and access to preventive oral health services. Among those they met with was Senator Patty Lewis (7th District).

Participants also had the opportunity to connect with 海角论坛 Chancellor C. Mauli Agrawal during the day’s activities, highlighting the university’s continued commitment to civic engagement and professional advocacy.

Experiential learning opportunities such as MDHA Lobby Day play an important role in preparing future dental hygienists for leadership. By participating in legislative discussions and policy conversations, students strengthen their communication skills, gain insight into the policymaking process, and learn to advocate confidently for their patients and their profession.
