Every February, National Children’s Dental Health Month unites dental professionals and educators nationwide to highlight the importance of good oral health for children and their families. For nearly 20 years, the School of Dentistry has proudly supported this effort by hosting its annual Give Kids A Smile event.

Organized in partnership with the school’s Department of Pediatric Dentistry, the event is part of the American Dental Association’s Give Kids A Smile campaign. Thanks to the leadership and dedication of the pediatric dentistry faculty, residents and staff, the school opens its doors each year to children from across the Kansas City area, providing free dental exams, teeth cleanings, dental sealants and fluoride treatments to those in need.

Beyond clinical care, the event creates a fun, welcoming and interactive environment where kids learn firsthand how to take care of their smiles. Faculty, students and staff work together to make each child feel comfortable and confident about visiting the dentist.

This year’s celebration was filled with bright smiles and meaningful connections. Volunteers shared at-home care kits, books and educational resources with children from around the community — reinforcing healthy habits that will last long after the event ends.
