How Placement Works for STEM or Business Math Courses

Your exam score determines which math course you will start in:

  • 70% or higher → Placement into MATH 110
  • 50%–69% → Placement into MATH 109/110 sequence

These placements are designed to help you build the skills you need to be successful in STEM or Business coursework.

What If I Score Below 50%?

If you do not score at least 50% on the placement exam, 海角论坛 will work with you to identify next steps. Options include:

  • Changing to a non-STEM/non-business major that does not require the MATH 110 sequence
  • Starting in University College to explore academic programs and build foundational skills
  • Dual enrolling in a math preparatory course through Metropolitan Community College (MCC) during your first semester at 海角论坛, while you pursue coursework in your STEM or Business program at 海角论坛

Why Math Placement Matters

Starting in the right math course helps set you up for success in your STEM or Business program, keeps you on track for graduation, and supports your confidence as you begin college-level coursework.

If you have questions about your math placement or next steps, reach out to your academic advisor or the 海角论坛 Math Department for guidance.
