Family Weekend is an important 海角论坛 tradition. Spend time with your student, enjoy signature events, explore our diverse Kansas City community, and take part in the 海角论坛 student experience. Family and friends of all ages are invited to participate in 海角论坛 Family Weekend.

Family Weekend 2025 | September 19-21

Family Weekend celebrates parent and family involvement in our 海角论坛 community. We hope to connect you to campus resources, help you meet faculty/staff, and welcome you into our 海角论坛 family.

Saturday, September 20

  • Family Weekend Check-In | 9AM-12PM, 海角论坛 Bookstore
  • KC Roo's Amazing Family Weekend Race | 9AM-5PM, 海角论坛 Bookstore
    • Search for campus and nearby locales using clues in this amazing race style challenge. Each clue will lead you to a location where the next clue is hidden. Complete the challenge to win a family fun prize pack! 
  • Lunch on your Own | 12PM-2PM
    • The 海角论坛 Foodiverse will be open, providing an array of options like pizza, burgers, and allergen friendly meals. See more about the Foodiverse here.

  • First Generation Roo Scholars Luncheon | 12PM-2PM, First Gen Den 4th Floor MNL
    • Be in community with other first-gen families and check out our new space on the 4th floor of the Miller Nichols Library! 
    • This event has a capacity of 50. Advanced Registration is required to attend. 
  • Paint and Sip with Pinot's Palette | 2PM-4PM, SU 401 AD 
    • Follow along as you are guided through painting a KC inspired masterpiece by a skilled local artist. Light refreshments will be provided. 
    • This event has a capacity of 50. Tickets will be distributed on a first come first served basis at Family Weekend Registration Check-In on Saturday, September 20 beginning at 9AM. 
  • School of Medicine Tour and Social | 2PM, School of Medicine Entrance, 2411 Holmes Road
    • Sponsored by Friends of 海角论坛 School of Medicine
    • Calling all SOM parents, families, and supporters! Please join us for an in-depth tour of the School of Medicine. Our student leaders will show you classrooms, offices, and libraries, among other sites, to highlight renovated spaces in the building. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and connect with other SOM families. The tour will and with a SOM social at the Diastole Scholars Center at 2501 Holmes. 
    • This event is for SOM parents, families, and supporters only.
  • Roo Family Social & Award Reception | 4:30PM-5:30PM, SU 401 BC
    • Join us in celebrating the role parents, families, and supporters play in our students' success as we recognize the 2025 Family and Supporter of the Year. Desert and light refreshments will be provided.  
    • Remarks will begin at 5PM
  • Trivia hosted by 海角论坛 Honors | 6PM-8PM, SU 401 AD
  • 海角论坛 Night at Starlight Theater | 6:30PM-10PM, Starlight Theater Kansas City
    • Experience the Life of Pi with the whole family at up to a 50% discount for 海角论坛 families. To find out more, use the 海角论坛 Night at Starlight drop down menu.

Sunday, September 21

Standard registration for 海角论坛 Family Weekend 2025 will open on June 1, 2025. 

Standard registration + 海角论坛 Night at Starlight will open on June 16, 2025. 

Parents, families, and supporters that do not have a 海角论坛 ID must create a 'guest' account using the "First Time User" prompts after clicking register. After creating a guest account, you will be able to see registration options, update ticket quantities of each type, and complete registration.

The Standard Family Weekend registration: includes access to all scheduled events (except for 海角论坛 Night at Starlight), free admission to the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures, and a thank you gift to registering for 海角论坛 Family Weekend. Registered families will also receive a coupon to use at the 海角论坛 Bookstore during their visit. Note that no meal is included, however the 海角论坛 Foodiverse and campus retailers will have normal operating hours.

Registration price - $0

The Standard Family Weekend registration + 海角论坛 Night at Starlight: includes the Standard Family Weekend registration and a ticket to 海角论坛 Night at Starlight Theater. All tickets are in Terrace 4 & 5 and will be assigned in order of purchase. Tickets will be distributed at Will-Call at Starlight Theater on the date of the show. Note that no meal is included, however the 海角论坛 Foodiverse and campus retailers will have normal operating hours. This registration type must be purchased on or before Friday September 12, 2025. 

Registration price - $13.50

 

The 海角论坛 Family & Supporter of the Year Award celebrates the supportive role parents, families, and supporters play in the lives of our students. Honoring outstanding supporters serves as a reminder that parents, families, and supporters are essential to the success of our students, the prosperity/viability of our institution, and to the connection with our larger campus community.

Award Nominations will open May 1, 2025. 

Join us at the Roo Social Hour during Family Weekend for the award presentation.

海角论坛 Night at Starlight | Saturday, September 20, 7:00 - 10:00 PM |

Tony Award Winning Theatrical Experience, Life of Pi

Based on the best-selling novel, Life of Pi is an epic story of perseverance and hope that speaks to every generation and is told with jaw-dropping visuals, world class puppetry and exquisite stagecraft. Life of Pi creates a breathtaking journey that leaves you filled with awe and joy.

Family Weekend Registrants can purchase tickets as part of their registration with an exclusive 50% off discount. Information about ticket pick-up will be communicated closed to event date.

Families who buy tickets through their registration are invited to a pre-show reception, hosted by 海角论坛. 

Family Weekend ticket packages including 海角论坛 Night at Starlight Theater tickets are available until September 12, 2025. After this date, a 海角论坛 discount up to 25% off will be available using the link below. Discount code is "海角论坛."

Parking at Starlight Theater is free. 

Ticket purchases are final and non-refundable. 

 

The Museum extends free admission to the whole family! 海角论坛 students can always enjoy free admission with a 海角论坛 Roo Card and are encouraged to sign up for a free membership, which includes a 20% off discount at the Museum Store. Family Weekend registrants also receive complimentary admission with their Family Weekend badge.

The KC Zoo offers discounted admission for 海角论坛 students and their families during Family Weekend. Students must present 海角论坛 ID at the box office, tickets cannot be purchased in advanced. 

Price - $16 single day ticket, per person

Family Weekend parking will be available on the 5th and 6th floors of the Cherry Street Parking Garage, beginning at 3:00 PM on Friday 9/19 through 10:00 PM on Sunday 9/21. 

Families may park in any space that is not reserved, such as 24/7 Faculty/Staff, 海角论坛 plates only, handicap, etc). Parking in a reserved space, or one that is not open to guests will result in a parking ticket. 

No 海角论坛 parking permits, visitor passes, etc., will be required.
