Sample Constitution

This is just a sample constitution to show format. Feel free to change or customize it in any way that works best for your organization.

Statements that are italicized and bold are required to be in your constitution verbatim. 

 

ARTICLE I. NAME AND PURPOSE

Section A. NAME

Part 1. The official name for this organization is the (STUDENT ORGANIZATION OFFICIAL NAME).

Part 2. This organization will use the name or its acronym, (ACRONYM), in all publicity materials and correspondence.

 

ARTICLE II. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Section A. PURPOSE

1.) The purpose of this organization is to (State purpose of organization)

ARTICLE III STATEMENT OF COMPLIANCE

Section A: COMPLIANCE STATEMENT

1) We agree to abide by all regulations described in the Standards of Practice for Student Organizations, all University policies, in addition to all federal, state and local laws.

 

ARTICLE IV Notice of Non-Discrimination

Section A:  NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT

1) This organization shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, disability, protected veteran status, and any other status protected by applicable state or federal law.

 

ARTICLE V. MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

 

Section A. MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY STATEMENT

1.) This organization shall ensure that at least 75% of its members are currently enrolled 海角论坛 students. Membership shall remain open to all current 海角论坛 students and employees.

Section B. GPA REQUIREMENTS

Part 1. The GPA Requirement for all officers is (enter GPA Requirement here)

Part 2. Officers must meet minimum eligibility requirements, including a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and six credit hours of current enrollment, and must not be on student conduct disciplinary or honor code probation.

The requirement to be enrolled in six credit hours will be waived for Doctoral student who have completed their formal degree course work, have passed their comprehensive or matriculation examination, and are continuously enrolled in at least one hour of research in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Section B. OFFICER SELECTION PROCESS

Part 1. The process for selecting officers is (enter a clearly defined outline of the process).

Part 2. Potential candidates must have accumulated 12 hours of credit at 海角论坛 before filling for office.

 

Section C. OFFICER REMOVAL PROCESS

Grounds for removal include the inadequate fulfillment of aforementioned duties or the violation of regulations described in the Standards of Practice for Recognized Student Organizations, University policies or any federal, state or local laws.

 

Section D. MEMBERSHIP DUES

Part 1: Paying dues is not a mandatory requirement to be considered a member of this organization. 

ARTICLE VI. HAZING STATEMENT

Section A. STATEMENT REGARDING HAZING

1.) Hazing is strictly prohibited in the State of Missouri and by the University. Hazing is defined as any willful act, occurring on or off the campus of an educational institution, directed against a student or a prospective member of an organization operating under the sanction of a educational institution, that recklessly endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student or prospective member for the purpose of initiation or admission into or continued membership in any such organization. Acts of hazing include, but are not limited to:

Hazing, defined as any intentional, knowing, or reckless act committed (whether individually or in concert) against another person or persons regardless of the willingness of such other person or persons to participate, that:

Is committed in the course of an initiation into, an affiliation with, or the maintenance of membership in a group or organization; and

Causes or creates a risk, above the reasonable risk encountered in the course of participation in the University or the organization (such as the physical preparation necessary for participation in an athletic team), of physical or psychological injury, including:

Whipping, beating, striking, electronic shocking, placing of a harmful substance on someone’s body, or similar activity;

Causing, coercing, or otherwise inducing sleep deprivation, exposure to the elements, confinement in a small space, extreme calisthenics, or other similar activity;

Causing, coercing, or otherwise inducing another person to consume food, liquid, alcohol, drugs, or other substances;

Causing, coercing, or otherwise inducing another person to perform sexual acts;

Any activity that places another person in reasonable fear of bodily harm through the use of threatening words or conduct;

Any activity against another person that includes a criminal violation of local, State, Tribal, or Federal law; and

Any activity that induces, causes, or requires another person to perform a duty or task that involves a criminal violation of local, State, Tribal, or Federal law.

Failure by a group's or organization's executive officers to intervene to prevent, discourage, and/or report hazing of which they are aware or reasonably should be aware also will be deemed a violation of this policy.

 

ARTICLE VII. ADVISOR ROLES & EXPECTATIONS

Section B. STATEMENT OF ADVISOR SELECTION

1.)  A qualified 海角论坛 faculty or staff member (at least 75% FTE) must be selected by the membership as an advisor.

Section C. ADVISOR REMOVAL PROCESS

Part 1.) Grounds for removal include the inadequate fulfillment of aforementioned duties or the violation of regulations described in the Standards of Practice for Recognized Student Organizations, University policies or any federal, state or local laws.

ARTICLE VIII. CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

Section A. FUTURE AMENDMENT STATEMENT

1.) It is further understood that if this organization desires at any time in the future to change in any way the provisions of this constitution, the organization must submit the amended constitution for approval to the Office of Student involvement before they can become effective.
