English Proficiency Policy

Minimum English Proficiency Test Requirements

Undergraduate

  • TOEFL iBT (reporting code 6872): 70
  • IELTS Academic: 6.0 (5.5 minimum in all bands)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): 48 (minimum of 44 in all skills)
  • Duolingo English Test (DET): 100 (minimum of 90 in all subscores)
  • GTEC CBT: 1175

Graduate

  • TOEFL iBT (reporting code 6872): 79
  • IELTS Academic: 6.5 (6.0 minimum in all bands)
  • PTE: 53
  • DET: 110
  • GTEC CBT: 1200

Exemptions

  • Citizens of a country that has English as an official language (PDF)
  • Students who have completed Composition I and II courses with a grade of C or better at a U.S.-accredited university or college
  • Students who have earned a degree or at least 24 credit hours of non-ESL coursework at an accredited university or college in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, New Zealand or Australia
  • Students who have successfully completed high school in the United States at an accredited school

School of Science and Engineering

Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Chemistry and Engineering Majors

English test exemptions: Master's and PhD students who earned a bachelor's or master's degree from an institution in Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Turkey are not required to submit proof of English proficiency for admission to these programs.

Graduate Biology Programs

MS Cell and Molecular Biology, IPhD Cell Biology and Biophysics, IPhD Molecular Biology and Biochemistry

Students may be considered for conditional admission if their scores meet 海角论坛 undergraduate minimum scores. They may begin studies in their academic program upon completion of the Applied Language Institute's required English coursework.
